How to Configure your Eudora Email for Encryption

Camden Computing Services will be implementing a change on August 1, 2006 to increase the security of our e-mail. Specifically, when your Rutgers e-mail travels between your computer and the Rutgers e-mail server, the communication will require encryption.

To accommodate this implementation, a couple of settings in your computer's e-mail program must be changed. Unless the changes are made, your Rutgers e-mail won't function correctly after July 31, 2006.

Please follow the instructions provided.

Launch your Eudora email program.

Click on Tools in the top toolbar

At the bottom of the box that appears, click on Options

Click on Getting Started on the left side of the window and make sure Allow authentication is checked in the right pane.

Click on Checking Mail on the left side of the window and make sure Required, Alternate Port appears in the "Secure Sockets When Receiving" drop down box.

Click on Sending Mail and make sure Required, STARTTLS is selected in the "Secure Sockets when Sending" drop down box. Also make sure that "Allow authentication" is checked. Note: for LAPTOP users please make sure "If Available, STARTTLS" is checked.

Click on OK to update your settings.

Close the Tools/Options window.

Be sure to check that your settings have been changed successfully. Please click on "Tools / Options" again and confirm that your settings now match the ones listed in the instructions above.
